Stories about travel, life, writing and parenting my college-age children (who think they don't need any more parenting). Oh! And the occasional amazing photograph (I like to play pro photographer on vacations.)
Quote of the Week
"Like stones, words are laborious and unforgiving, and the fitting of them together, like the fitting of stones, demands great patience and strength of purpose and particular skill."
That's a poetic way of saying "think carefully before saying or writing something", isn't it? ;) Also like stones, words can do great harm if brandished about carelessly.
This is such deep wisdom! Sometimes I am in search of better words... mine seem so ordinary. And then I read beautiful books and realize the words themselves are not the craft... the craft is how we bump them up against each other. So so hard to do well!!

It is often difficult to fit words together. I find that some words are light and airy though.

Hope you're keeping well!
Oooh, "light and airy." I like the image that evokes, Nancy!

Lovely - nice metaphor for what writing is - a fitting, a jostling of elements, a honing down. Perfect quote and love the picture!
So true...
